Community Development

Community development is a holistic approach grounded in principles of empowerment, human rights, inclusion, social justice, self-determination and collective action. HVT recognizes the need for investing in men/women and material as a means of bringing about a positive impact on quality of life in rural areas. Our projects under this sector will be instrumental in developing pride in people for their region, and in raising the standard of living of rural people by enhancing their security, freedom, dignity and self-reliance.

Our Community Development Programmes draw inspiration and strategy from the first major rural development programme launched after independence in October 1952 with the following main objectives.

  • Secure total development of the material and the human resources in rural areas.
  • Develop local leadership and self-governing institutions.
  • Raise the living standards of the rural people by means of rapid increase in food and agricultural produce.
  • Ensure a change in the mind-set of people instilling in them a mission of higher standards.

Our programmes are aimed at changing the economic, social and cultural life of the rural population and to transform the stagnant villages into progressive rural communities. Our programmes intend to promote rural welfare through the improvement of not just the education, public health and sanitation, medical facilities, drinking water, community centres, sports and cultural activities, but also ways and means to capitalise on the inherent strengths of the village/ region, be it in agriculture, animal husbandry, cultural heritage, handloom, art and crafts with the sole purpose of creating respectful livelihoods.

At HVT, we believe in the power of sustainable and inclusive growth that uplifts individuals, families, and entire communities. Through the below initiatives and programs, we strive to empower people to improve their lives, build resilient communities, and create pathways to a brighter future.
